The best things you can do for your brain …and body. (Preventive Medicine)

Often people come to see me and ask about all sorts of brain training, cognitive improving and life enhancing medications, herbs, “natural medicines” (whatever those are, fish oils, Omega-3 ….you name it. How can we fix how I feel is their basic questions. Research is pretty clear that one place you should start when trying to “feel better,” both physically and mentally, is right in front of you. While skimming the net this month I came across this excellent video on this technique. It explains it, and clarifies a lot of questions. So, why re-invent the wheel? If you have some problems with mood, depression, anxiety, memory problems, problems with focus and concentration, organization, procrastination …..this intervention may not cure it, but it will help. Yes, contact your MD, get a check up, see a psychologist for an assessment, a psychoeducational assessment if it’s a learning problem. Talk to him or her about specific techniques and tools, or see your doctor if you need medication. But also think about the foundational work you need to do to just feel better. Watch this video …and then back away from your computer! Skip the brain games and get back into real life…. this is the best approach to preventive care and medicine out there.
