Stimulant Treatment For ADHD Has No Effect On Risk Of Future Substance Abuse, Study Finds

The risk of future drug or substance abuse is often a factor in parental decision on the use of medications for ADHD. This is one of many research and summary articles found in the scientific literature that show no relationship, or a negative relationship, between the use of medically prescribed stimulants and later substance abuse. Discuss this issue openly with your medical provider. Obtain information from a doctor you trust, rather than friends, workmates or popular press stories aimed at selling newspapers and magazines. Talk to your doctor.
