“Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnostic rates in the United States have increased dramatically between 2011 and 2022, according to study findings published in  JAMA Network Open.

Researchers characterized prevalence trends of ASD diagnoses related to age, sex, race, and ethnicity in the US across a recent decade.

The researchers used ICD-9 and -10 codes in US health and insurance claims records from January 2011 through December 2022 to conduct a cross-sectional study exploring annual diagnosis rates in ASD. Individuals enrolled in a participating health system (a consortium of research centers in the Mental Health Research Network) for at least 10 of the 12 calendar months were included.” The full article can be found below:
